The Ceremony of Sukhavati

The Sukhavati practice is sometimes done as part of a Tibetan Buddhist funeral. It invokes both Amitabha Buddha, the buddha of infinite life and light, and Avalokiteshvara, the manifestation of compassion. Sukhavati (soo-KAH-vah-tee), or “land of bliss,” is the Pure Land in the West, beyond our world, where Amitabha resides.

The Sukhavati text PBMG uses comes from the Vajradhatu tradition. You can download it here in PDF format.
